The Baye Roleplay

Roleplay Basics

The terms and standards every roleplayer needs to know, explained with examples.

This is not the rulebook

This page explains common roleplay terms so you understand the rules. The official server rules are in our Discord. Read them. They take priority over anything here.

The golden rule

Make the story better for everyone in it. Roleplay is collaborative. Winning a scene matters far less than making it memorable. Losing well is a skill, and it's often the start of the best stories.

IC and OOC

  • IC (in character): anything your character says, does or knows.
  • OOC (out of character): you, the real person.

Keep the two apart. Stay in character at all times in-game. If something goes wrong OOC, finish the scene and sort it out through Discord or a support ticket.

Glossary

Character separation

Each of your characters is a different person:

  • They don't know each other or share information.
  • Never move money, items or vehicles between your own characters, directly or through a friend.
  • Don't have your characters in the same group, gang or story in a way that lets them benefit each other.

Bugs and exploits

If you find a bug or a way to duplicate items or money, report it in Discord. Don't use it. Abusing exploits is treated seriously.

Good habits

  • Stay in character, even when things don't go your way.
  • Use /me to describe actions that can't be shown.
  • Give people time to react before acting on them.
  • Respect other people's scenes. Don't barge into a roleplay situation just to make it about you.
  • Report, don't argue. If someone breaks the rules, finish the scene, clip it if you can and open a ticket.
